What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer that are generated by a website or web server. These files can store all types of information but are most commonly used to remember options and preferences you’ve selected etc. When you return to your favourite websites and they have remembered your name, cookies are at work. If you’d like to learn more about Cookies visit AboutCookies.org. The JAY-BE® website uses various cookies, as listed below.
Google Analytics Cookie
Like most websites we use Google analytics to provide information on all of our users. This gathers, technical information not personal information but it does obtain the internet protocol (IP) address of the computer you are using. Other information this cookie gathers are things like, your operating system, web browser type and version and what pages you visited and how long you stayed on them. We can also see how you found your way to JAY-BE®, i.e. from a Search Engine.
We then analyse this information closely to help improve the website for our users both in terms of content and functionality. Without this information we would just be guessing as to what content was working and we certainly wouldn't know anything about the type of devices that are being used to access our website.
The blog section of this website uses the popular content management system WordPress. WordPress uses several cookies in order to function correctly. These cookies are not directly related to JAY-BE® and any questions you have regarding them can be found on this WordPress codex page.
PHP Session Cookie
This cookie is used only in our client login section. This is a very simple cookie that simply keeps track of whether a user is or is not logged in to the website. We need to know whether a user is logged so we know what content they can access.
How can I control cookies?
If you would like to be able to see what cookies are incoming you can use the free browser extension Ghostery. This extension also lets you decide which cookies you would like to block.
